Oregon Department of Geology has new online mapping site

Highly detailed maps are available online through a program administered by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries.

Ian Madin, chief scientist for the department, said the new Web site has very detailed topographic maps for all of Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge available to download.

The new maps, based on lidar technology, are the most detailed and accurate available anywhere.  The Web site is www.oregongeology.org/sub/lidardataviewer/index.htm.

More data will be added over the next year, covering the entire coast and much of the central Oregon Cascades.
