FIRE CAUSES SPM EXAM TO BE ADJOURNED FOR TWO HOURS

MELAKA, Dec 10 (Bernama) — A fire broke out at Sekolah Menengah Bukit Rambai, Tangga Batu here today, forcing the ongoing Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination to be adjourned for two hours.

The fire broke out at 11am, just before the 115 students sat for the Tassawur Islam papers.

“The fire was believed to have started at a store located at the third floor of one of the school’s three-storey buildings,” Melaka Fire and Rescue Department operational assistant director R.Ezhumalai told Bernama.

He said three fire engines with 21 firemen were rushed to the scene and managed to put the blaze under control at 11.47am.

No casualties were reported.

Melaka Education director, Isa Abu, who visited the scene, said the examination hall of the school was not affected by the fire.

“The Fire and Rescue Department verified that the examination hall, located in another building, is safe and can be used for the rest of the examination,” he explained.

He also said that the Public Works Department would evaluate the damage incurred by the fire and would implement the repair works on the affected building before the school session begins on Jan 4 next year.
